Pax et Bonum — Peace and All Good.
The Franciscan Crown, also known as the Rosary of the Seven Joys of Mary, is a beautiful traditional devotion honouring seven moments of joy in the life of the Blessed Virgin.
Handcrafted with earthy picture jasper beads and warm bronze findings, this seven-decade rosary is rendered entirely in soft shades of brown and ochre, reminiscent of the simple mendicant robes worn by St Francis and his brothers.
The centre features an image of St Francis of Assisi, with the words "Where there is despair, hope" inscribed on the reverse, recalling the beloved Prayer of St Francis. The rosary is completed with a bronze San Damiano crucifix, faithfully cast from an antique original. This distinctive cross recalls the crucifix before which Francis prayed when he heard the call to rebuild the Church.
Unlike the traditional five-decade Dominican rosary, the Franciscan Crown comprises seven decades, each dedicated to one of the Seven Joys of Mary: the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Nativity, the Adoration of the Magi, the Finding of Jesus in the Temple, the Resurrection, and the Assumption and Coronation of Mary.
The natural variations in picture jasper give each bead its own character, evoking the colours and textures of the earth. Together with the understated bronze, they create a devotional piece that reflects the Franciscan love of simplicity, creation, and the sacredness of ordinary life.
A rosary for prayer, contemplation, and the cultivation of joy, this piece is especially meaningful for those drawn to Franciscan spirituality and the example of the Poor Man of Assisi.
Handcrafted with care, and intended to be treasured for generations.
