Rooibos Tea Product Description

Botanical Name: Aspalathus linearis

Common Names: Rooibos, Redbush Tea, Red Tea

Description: Rooibos is a beloved, needle-leaved shrub native exclusively to the rugged Cederberg mountains of South Africa. Naturally caffeine-free and rich in unique antioxidant flavonoids, Rooibos brews into a rich, reddish-brown infusion with a smooth, sweet, and earthy flavor profile. Unlike traditional teas, it is exceptionally low in tannins, meaning it never turns bitter no matter how long it steeps. It is a deeply nourishing, calming daily beverage that offers robust cellular protection, supports digestive ease, and hydrates the body without any stimulant jitters.

Energetics: Cool to Neutral, Sweet, Slightly Earthy, Relaxing

Key Constituents: The health benefits of Rooibos are driven by its rare antioxidant profile, featuring aspalathin (a unique dihydrochalcone antioxidant found exclusively in rooibos), nothofagin, and rich levels of flavonoids such as quercetin and rutin. It is also packed with essential minerals including iron, potassium, calcium, and magnesium.

Traditional Uses: Rooibos is a versatile and restorative daily wellness tea. It is traditionally used to:

  • Provide powerful antioxidant and anti-inflammatory support to protect cellular health

  • Calm mild digestive upset, colic, and nervous stomach tension

  • Support healthy relaxation and promote restful sleep due to its naturally caffeine-free and low-tannin nature

  • Soothe skin irritations, eczema, or diaper rash when applied topically as a cooled wash

Preparation: Because Rooibos features sturdy, needle-like leaves, a longer steeping time fully unlocks its rich flavor and beneficial compounds.

  • Hot Infusion: Pour boiling water over 1 to 2 teaspoons of loose rooibos tea leaves (or a tea bag) and steep for 5 to 10 minutes (or longer). It will not become bitter.

  • Iced Tea: Brew a strong batch, chill, and serve over ice with a slice of lemon or a touch of honey for a refreshing, mineral-rich summer drink.
